Context
A flat preview answers a flat question. When the product is a box, a carton or anything else with more than one printed face, a shopper looking at a two-dimensional layout has to imagine how the panels meet, and a shopper who has to imagine something often leaves instead. Rebelo AG wanted its customers to turn the finished object on screen before ordering it.
What Netbase delivered
The preview lives inside the online designer rather than beside it, so the customer sees the object update as the artwork changes. Configuration works per product:
- a 3D preview for boxes and other multi-sided products in the online designer;
- configuration by uploading a 3D model file for the product;
- the preview enabled or left off product by product, so the catalogue can adopt it gradually.
That last point matters more than it sounds. A printer with a long catalogue does not model everything at once; enabling the preview per product lets the highest-value items go first and the rest follow.
Results Rebelo AG reported
These are Rebelo AG's own figures for its own store after the preview went live. They describe what happened at one Portuguese printer, and they are not a projection for anyone else:
- revenue up 39% in the first year;
- engagement up 98%, with no period recorded in the source;
- conversions in personalised segments up 53%, with no period recorded in the source;
- productivity up 25%, with no period recorded in the source.
Evidence and limitations
- Only the revenue figure carries a period in its source, and it is published with that period intact. No period has been invented for the other three.
- A separate Netbase feature story from July 2021 quotes traffic and revenue numbers that disagree with the attested figures. Those numbers are not published here, and the attested set above is the only one this site uses.
- Netbase configured the preview. The commercial movement is Rebelo AG's, and a printer's revenue responds to more than one change at a time.
- No screenshots of the designer or the store are published. The image on this page is illustrative.
- The methodology page sets out how figures on this site are sourced, attributed and corrected.
Questions buyers ask
Do we need a 3D model for every product before launch? No. The preview is enabled per product, so a catalogue can start with the items that most need it and extend later.
Was three and a half months the build time or the time to go live? It is the go-live timeline recorded for this project, from engagement to the preview being live. Another catalogue, with more models to prepare, would take its own time.
Will a 3D preview raise our revenue by 39%? That figure belongs to Rebelo AG and to the year it measured. Treat it as evidence that the feature can matter, not as a forecast.
